Brussels is the capital city, in the centre of Belgium, and also the largest municipality of the Brussels-Capital Region. This municipality inside Brussels is correctly named The City of Brussels (French: Bruxelles-Ville or Ville de Bruxelles, Dutch: Stad Brussel), which is one of 19 municipalities that make up the Brussels-Capital Region with a total population of 1,018,804 inhabitants.
Brussels is the ultimate European city. As the
headquarters to the EU and NATO it is often referred to as The
Capital of Europe. It is an international metropolis – a mosaic of
languages, cultures, and traditions. Aside from the splendid and
varied architectural styles of the city, Brussels also hosts over 80
museums, numerous tourist attractions, a vibrant nightlife, and more
restaurants than you could count. The centre is divided into the
Lower and Upper Towns. The former is centred around the magnificent
Grand’ Place and still follows a vaguely medieval form, with its
narrow, atmospheric streets. The bars, restaurants and nightspots of
St.Géry take on a life of their own in the hot months, when the
energy buzz is thickly atmospheric.
